~AoH-Silence, aka Forgotten, had requested an avatar of an wise old man with glowing eyes, waving a staff. I immediately loved the idea, and tool the request despite having other requests (like that spider avatar, it's taking FOREVER). I tried to make my best. :) This is also my birthday gift for him (October 24th). Happy birthday!

My software of choice is always Ulead Gif Animator. I won't talk about the animation techniques and such this time, because I used the same as in my other avatars. I'll focus on the creative process. I listened to the great composer Vangelis, and read my fantasy tales about wanderers. I got myself a new sketch pad, and used it to sketch a first approach to this character. It was rather scary and I didn't like it; it didn't fit into Forgotten's concept either, so I went for a more priest-like character, almost taken from the bible. I settled for this. I was going to draw a golden aura around the character, but it didn't look good in pixel art. The whole process took 24 days because I started on October the 1st.

I'm really busy, I just logged in to post this avatar, and found 20 new comments, 7 journals and ~50 new deviations. Give me a break! =P

Nice motion with the hands, the robe and the cape. The beard swings nicely. I think there is just one frame mising, it does not look like the staff is hatting the ground if you know what I mean. It lookes like he is puling it up and down. Just before he pulls it back it should go down, dip a bit. The appearing of the text is good too. nice work. Hope you don't mind the crit
Very nice, I like it, it looks quite different from what you usually do, it seems to have a much different style. You've done really well with the illusion of movement, it really does look like he's moving towards you, it works fantastically with the transparent background. I also love how the words appear, it's like mist fading away and closing in again. It's so well executed, it looks so good!
:aww:
But his staff seems to sink into the ground instead of just hitting it, it get's smaller as it goes down. Maybe you could try and fix it?

Great work! Can't wait for the ~killswitchbitch avatar.
Sorry for increasing your comment count by one, but I just had to say that this is great work. It looks just like a sprite from a game. I wish the head was rounder, not sure if it could be done (perhaps by some antialiasing tricks?) The animation is really smooth and lively and the dithering is fantastic.
haha - what you see here (this comment) is me making an effort to get on top of the ~500 (yes five hundred) deviations in my message centre from the last two weeks :faint:

it was well worth looking at though :) one of your best avatars in my opinion :)

As always , great job. it actually looks like a sprite from a game, congrats :)
Only thing I don't like is the way "Forgotten" appears but that's just me.

wow your getting good at these would love to see you try another for me ^__^ but I won't make you seeing as I kind of gave up on Da. but I just wnated to say YAY! you rock as always ^__^ :glomp:
...Whoa. Nice. Really nice. The stuff you do with pixel animation is amazing. The motion of the beard, the arms, the cape and the legs are very realisitc. I see what people are saying about the staff; the motion looks a little too up and down for someone who's walking, but I didn't even notice it until I read the other comments, so it's not really noticable. Excellent work.
