Artist's Comments

I had it in my unfinished works for a long time, and a few days ago `diamondie reminded me that the Text Art gallery is in desperate need of some true text art. I took my old drawing, added the curves to the text and drew the circles again because I didn't like the original antialiasing. I'm trying some new techniques, as always; I replaced o and n by y because it covers the lower area. This looks perfect when you're filling with $, which also reaches lower, but don't try it with "normal" fillers such as 8, M, O or any common letter/number. I also discovered the character !, which is great for very slanted diagonals. I'm really proud of the antialiasing this time, and that's the main reason why I'm posting this picture, so that other ASCII artists can learn from it. :D

About the concept itself, I can't deny I took it from the X-Files ("I want to believe"). :giggle: The weird circles are similar to the mysterious circles found in that wheat field, you know the story. They said they were drawn by an UFO, but years later, two people claimed to be responsible for the drawings. Who knows.

Personally, I do believe in extraterrestrial life. They could be ultra-smart yellow aliens or little bacterias, but I'm sure they exist.

As always, press "Download to Desktop" to get the original .ans file, and check my Solid ASCII Art Tutorial for more tips. To ASCII and ANSI artists, please show us your best work, the Text Art gallery needs you more than ever!

Edit: Thanks to ~DampeS8N and `diamondie for the tips. I changed all the @'s to #'s. I also added antialiasing marks in some of the letters. There was a grey oval in the top left corner, I replaced it with this weird thing =P

how cool!

And your point?
:iconryuuken:
Y'know, scientists are investigating crop circles, and they've found something close to a solution :wow:

They say that when lightning strikes ground (or near it), the magnetic field around it goes in one direction (clockwise I think, I'd have to check my notes :P ). Still, they haven't found a reason for those nifty patterns though ;)

Its called a hoax.. hehe.. I've made a few crop circles myself... there is a society in England that makes them regularly, all the really famous ones are theirs. Like the Mendlebrot and other fractel ones...

I don't like the @'s they are too dark in this font and make it look like little bubbles poking out of the piece... I don't know what other characters would be better.. maybe an o or something.

 That's great
Still though, I'd like to see scientific evidence myself :D

evidence of what?

The simple explanation is often the correct one.
What is more likely, lightning or aliens? or that a buncha kids make em?

I'm not entirely sure about the @ either, but I can't suggest any better characters to use - probably because there are none. I'd probably change the exclamation marks to something else. The double L's and j's bother me a bit, but the antialiasing is very smooth as a whole.

The style is impressive, the picture looks like a scene logo (though they rarely are this good), especially the word "believe". The composition is very nice too. I just can't figure out the oval at top left, is it a UFO viewed from the bottom or something else?

Oh that's so cool! ^^

I tried to find alternatives to L and j, but couldn't. b and d are not diagonal enough for my taste, and other characters are simply not fitting. If I were to replace @, I'd use % just because it's slightly higher than y, but both alternatives mess with the contrast.

In fact, this ASCII is inspired from scene logos. I've made some graffity-style ASCII too, but these attempts are not DA-worthy. ^^; The oval was meant to be an UFO, I even tried to draw inside, but there was not enough room. Thank you for your thoughts. :thanks:
